Parents and Tots is a program for children aged 0 to five years and their parents/caregivers. The children participate in playgroups that emphasize social, language, gross and fine motor skills. Guided by an educator, children are helped to achieve developmental milestones and school preparedness through the use of songs, play, games and activities. Parents gather together to enjoy social time, surf the internet and participate in workshops and activities.

Our programs and services are for children 5 to 12 years old, and their families. Our goal is to provide a safe, encouraging and empowering environment in which children can learn and grow. We offer specialized programs and activities that focus on team work, leadership, healthy lifestyles, fostering acceptance, inclusion, respect, cooperation and responsibility. Activities and special events are geared towards building children's self esteem and developing their social skills. Building positive relationships with each other is strongly encouraged.

The Dawson Teen Program offers drop-in and structured activities for youth aged 13-17 years. In a safe, supportive and positive environment, teens are given the opportunity to increase their physical skills, gain a sense of identity and purpose. Teens are encouraged to be responsible participants, both within the program and the community. Respect, responsibility and positive attitude are strongly enforced. As members, teens can choose to participate in a variety of activities offered in the four program areas: sports, recreation, leadership and prevention.

The Young Adult program offers a variety of activities for 18 to 30 year olds. This program provides opportunities to members in the areas of: recreation, career counseling, school support, volunteering and resources and referrals. Anyone interested in this program are encouraged to contact the Teen and Young Adult Coordinator for more details.

The Seniors program is for adults aged 50 years and up, who are autonomous, retired or available during the program hours (9:00 am-2:30 pm). We offer fitness, social, educational and artistic activities, services to the community and volunteer opportunities through more than 20 different activities. The majority of our members are English speaking seniors from Verdun and the surrounding area although we are open to all other cultures and languages.

Volunteers play a vital role within Dawson Community Centre. Throughout the year, volunteers of all ages and abilities help the staff and members of Dawson to build an atmosphere that is inviting and full of life. Volunteer opportunities exist in a variety of capacities: assisting with program activities, outings, youth dances, fundraisers and various special events (blood drives, community dinners, tax clinics, etc.). Anyone interested in volunteering at Dawson are encouraged to contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
Field placement is an important component of Dawson community Centre. We offer a wide range of programs and activities at various times in a range of age groups that can accommodate most students’ learning requirements and complex schedules. Dawson hosts a wealth of opportunities to learn, experience and apply newly acquired skills. Opportunities would be creating and implementing recreational, educational and social activities within group and individual interventions.
